Papua New Guinea Systematic Country Diagnostic

Launch of Public Consultations

The World Bank Group welcomes views from civil society organizations, the academic community, think tanks, the private sector, and citizens to finalize its Systematic Country Diagnostic report on Papua New Guinea and make it relevant in achieving poverty reduction and shared prosperity.

About the Systematic Country Diagnostic

The World Bank Group has started the preparation of its new strategy to strengthen its partnership with Papua New Guinea. This process involves two main phases: (i) the Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD); and (ii) the Country Partnership Framework (CPF).

The SCD is an assessment of the constraints a country faces and the opportunities it can embrace to accelerate progress in reducing poverty and achieving higher living standards for its people. The SCD draws upon all available information, including findings of World Bank Group analytical work, as well as research by other international and domestic partners, and incorporates feedback received during online and face to face consultations.

The purpose of the SCD is to inform the CPF, which is a strategic document that sets priority areas for the World Bank Group’s engagement and support in a country. The new CPF for Papua New Guinea will be prepared in 2018/2019 to guide the World Bank Group's work over the coming four years (2019-2022).

Launch of public consultations on the Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD)

To inform the SCD, the World Bank Group will undertake public consultations to identify and analyze the most binding constraints and the main opportunities that Papua New Guinea needs to address to achieve the twin goals of extreme poverty reduction and shared prosperity. Consultations will take place over August and September 2017.

The SCD team will meet with a wide range of stakeholders, including government counterparts (national, regional, and local), development partners, private sector representatives and civil society. In addition to face-to-face consultation, online avenues will allow people to submit questions and comments.
