Consultations on the WBG’s Evolution Process
The World Bank Group’s public consultation period on our Evolution Process is open until July 31, 2023. The Development Committee paper providing the basis for the consultations is now available here. A survey with guiding questions for your feedback is available below. You can also provide written comments by email to [email protected]. A summary of stakeholder views will be posted at a later date.

Overview
There is broad recognition that the world must do more to address the crises facing development. The devastating impacts of climate change, fragility, debt, pandemics, and other threats to our natural world require a significant shift in the global response. The World Bank Group is central to these efforts, and our shareholders, clients, and partners, want the Bank to be able to do more for global public goods.
The World Bank Group, led by its Board and shareholders, has embarked on a process to evolve its Vision and Mission, Operating Model, and Financial Capacity, as detailed in the Evolution Roadmap, which was publicly disclosed in January 2023. The Bank Group is now engaging and listening to various stakeholders across the development spectrum to ensure an inclusive and collaborative process.
Phase 1
Both the face-to-face and online consultations are based on the Development Committee paper.
Phase 1 consists of:
- Online Consultation Feedback: The online consultation period has now been extended from the previous deadline of May 31, 2023 to July 31, 2023 to allow time for more stakeholders to provide feedback. A survey with specific questions and at least one open-ended comment box allows respondents to contribute.
- Face-to-face engagements: A series of face-to-face engagements were held during the Spring Meetings at the Bank’s headquarters in Washington, DC, including the WBG Evolution Forum on April 11, 2023, from 8.30 to 10.30 am EST. The Forum gave stakeholders an update on the Bank Group’s proposed evolution and obtained feedback, comments and perspectives on it’s role and efforts in addressing the defining challenges of our time.
