People in Mongolia can voice their views in a series of public engagements with the World Bank Group from August to September 2017. Views are sought on Mongolia's development, challenges and priorities as well critical areas where World Bank Group support would have the biggest impact in promoting sustainable poverty reduction and shared prosperity.

The Engagement Process

The engagement process includes both face-to-face meetings and an online/web-based platform to enable participation by a wide range of stakeholders.

This engagement web page includes background materials that interested stakeholders can use to provide their input. These materials are available in Mongolian and English language.

Aside from face-to-face meetings, stakeholders can send their feedback and input by e-mail to the World Bank office in Ulaanbaatar, ibaatarkhuu@worldbank.org, or through the online questionnaire.

In your view, what are the critical areas where the World Bank Group support would have the biggest impact in promoting sustainable poverty reduction and shared prosperity?

The first round of engagements to gather feedback on key opportunities and challenges to ending poverty and boosting shared prosperity in Mongolia as well as potential WBG support areas was organized in August–October 2017. More than 400 stakeholders from government, Parliament, development partners, civil society organizations and private sector in Ulaanbaatar and 4 regions shared their views through face-to-face meetings and online surveys. The analytical document on Mongolia’s development challenges and opportunities in which the feedback from previous round of engagement was considered is available at here.

The preparation of the new strategy will be informed by the conclusions of this diagnostic, feedback from the stakeholders received during the engagement meetings and online consultations, Mongolia’s development strategy, as well as analytical studies produced by the World Bank.

On the basis of all the above documents and engagements, we have identified the following focus areas of intervention: Improving Governance; Increasing Competitiveness; Strengthening Human Development and Resilience.

This round of consultations builds on two previous phases of CPF consultations held in 2017–2019. From August to October 2017, more than 400 stakeholders from government, Parliament, development partners, civil society organizations, and the private sector in Ulaanbaatar and four regions shared their views on the Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD) and new CPF through face-to-face meetings and online surveys. This was followed by a second phase of consultations conducted from December 2018 to February 2019, which further informed the draft CPF.

The preparation of the new strategy will be informed by the conclusions of the SCD, feedback from the stakeholders received during the consultations, Mongolia’s development strategy, as well as other analytical studies produced by the World Bank.

On the basis of all the above documents and engagements, we have identified the following focus areas of intervention: supporting economic recovery and fostering economic stability, boosting competitiveness and creating quality jobs, and building human capital and promoting inclusion.
